Why a Borzoi?
A picture like this may explain it all. One day I received a phone call from a client who wondered if I'd heard that borzoi were being rescued from an owner in TN. This individual was dying of cancer and it had become a pretty dreadful situation. Fiyero was one of the borzoi at her place in TN. She had never said bippety, boppety, boo to me and this was the first I'd heard of it.
At that time, I had a litter on the ground and couldn't just take off to drive to TN. I called a client of mine who had a couple of borzoi from me and lived just about 40 miles from the owner’s house and she said she'd get him for me. I told her if she and her family liked him she could keep him otherwise I'd make arrangements and get him from her. As you can see above Fiyero is getting along wonderfully at her new home and while some books may disagree, borzoi seem to make wonderful dogs for children to get along with.
Borzoi are an amazing breed that will surprise you around every corner. Borzoi as adults are generally quite laid back, easy to train, quiet, very clean, and easy to live with. This breed truly has qualities everyone will find appealing. Whether you live in an apartment or on a ranch, borzoi will find themselves at home. Renown for being a coach potato, borzoi love to lay around the house, but at a moments notice will be ready for your next adventure with them. Great to go on a run with, toss frisbee, or take to the dog park: your borzoi will be there for you.

A little about borzoi adapted from the Borzoi Club of America (www.borzoiclubofamerica.org)
Borzoi are the healthiest and longest lived of the giant breeds. Borzoi can live up to 14 years of age and are known to be extremely healthy with little history of disease or illness. Borzoi can be susceptible to a condition known as torsion, but my dogs are warrantied against this. Borzoi generally grow between 28 and 32 inches high and in the range of 60 to 100 pounds, females are generally around the lower end of this range with males at the upper.
Borzoi are extremely intelligent animals while maintaing their independence. They love to lounge around the house, but are extremely keen to play all day. Many borzoi are trained in obedience and agility with many videos exist on the web of them in competition.
Borzoi puppies are an incredible amount of fun to raise and make a part of your family. Generally great family dogs, puppies can be raised to fit your household. Cats, children, and other dogs, while requiring close monitoring; can become part of the family in short order getting along with the other animals you have at the house.
Taking care of your borzoi may be easier than you might think. Borzoi do not consume a great amount of food depending on their exercise level and the food you feed them doesn’t need to be any special formulation (we use purina dog chow at C’Lestial). Their coats, which do shed, are absolutely beautiful and due to their fine consistency, do not carry dirt. Borzoi themselves are extremely clean and in most cases take cleaning into their own paws.
